About Columbus
Columbus is the county seat of Platte County in eastern Nebraska, with a population of around 23,000. The city sits where U.S. Highway 30 and U.S. Highway 81 cross, which has made it a regional service hub for decades - people drive in from Schuyler, David City, Albion, and other smaller towns for shopping, medical care, and services. The Platte River forms the southern edge of the city, and the Loup Power Canal, a man-made hydroelectric waterway, runs through the city and is a visible landmark that most residents pass regularly. Pawnee Park, along the canal on the west side of downtown, is the main city park and the place most Columbus families know by name.
The housing stock in Columbus leans heavily toward owner-occupied single-family homes, most of them built in the mid-20th century. Older neighborhoods near downtown feature two-story frame homes and some brick construction, while the south and west sides have more ranch homes on modest lots. Newer subdivisions have grown on the north and east edges of town, but the bulk of the homes we work on in Columbus are from the 1950s through the 1970s - the age range where insulation upgrades typically deliver the most noticeable results. We also serve nearby communities including Norfolk to the north and Schuyler to the southwest.
